READ MOREThere’s no better feeling than a rush of NARS Blush. With iconic and new shades, versatile finishes, and a silky, blendable formula that lasts up to 16 hours, our powder Blush can completely elevate a look. “You can show so much personality with Blush. It all depends on your choice of color and application,” says François Nars, Founder & Creative Director. Whether your go-to shade is iconic peachy-pink Orgasm, muted mauve Behave, or boundary-breaking bold red Exhibit A, François believes everyone should play with Blush. “It’s so versatile and can create endless looks. Color on the cheek enlivens the entire complexion,” he says.
There’s plenty of room for play when it comes to Blush, and with more than 20 shades to choose from, the options can feel overwhelming. Start by choosing a shade either one to three shades brighter or deeper than your complexion for a natural rush of color. You can also use your skin’s undertone to determine which shade to pick: wearing a cool-toned Blush if your undertone is cool creates a natural effect, while picking the opposite of your undertone gives cheeks a pop of color.
You can even use Blush to combat skin concerns. Avoid red-based shades if you have a light to medium complexion and struggle with redness. Instead, opt for blue-based pinks and peaches, like Orgasm, Thrill, Gina, and Sex Appeal. If you struggle with dullness, stay away from yellow-brown tones. Blue-based pinks and berries, like Dolce Vita and Teased, counteract dull skin, while coral and cherry shades like Orgasm X, Torrid, and Exhibit A help to brighten and lift the complexion. To neutralize hyperpigmentation, use peach, coral, and red-tone Blush shades like Orgasm, Orgasm Edge, Obsession, and Exhibit A as color corrector.
François has always emphasized the importance of proper Blush application. “How and where you apply it is more important than what color you use,” he says. For more color intensity, select a brush with tighter-bound bristles like #16 Blush Brush. If you prefer a softer effect, use a loose, fluffy brush like the Yachiyo Brush. Follow your face shape when applying the powder for your most flattering finish.
Swirl at the top of the cheekbone to elevate and add natural dimension.
Apply to the apple of the cheek and blend along the cheekbone, following its natural shape, toward the temple.
Blend slightly below the cheekbone to soften a square jawline and create a natural flush.
Give a round face a more sculpted look by blending beneath the cheekbone and up toward the hairline.
Place two fingers next to your nose, then apply your Blush onto the cheekbones and sweeping back toward the temples to ensure the color doesn’t overpower your face shape.
Apply onto the hollows of cheeks with Ita Kabuki Brush and blend upwards for a contoured effect.
Imagine a W shape across the face, applying the color at the apples of the cheeks, then across your cheeks and nose.
